How we protect your data

Your privacy is protected by responsible data practices. Data plays an important role in making the products and services you buy from us secure and helpful in your life. We are committed to treating that data responsibly and protecting your privacy with strict protocols and innovative privacy technologies.

Our website uses Encryption, by Default. We encrypt (serve over SSL) all WordPress.com sites, including custom domains hosted on WordPress.com. We consider strong encryption so important that we do not offer the option to disable it, which would compromise the security of your WordPress.com site.

We use the Wordfence security plugin which will automatically update the firewall rules from our servers in our network operations center without you having to update Wordfence. As new threats emerge, the firewall uses rules to protect you that are updated in real-time for premium members. And as Premium users we receive an additional layer of protection.

What data breach procedures we have in place

Washington law requires businesses, individuals, and public agencies to notify any Washington resident who is at risk of harm because of the unauthorized acquisition of data that compromises the security, confidentiality, or integrity of that resident’s personal information.

Please see the “Reporting Data Breaches” section of our business resources page for more information on how to submit a data security breach notification sample to our office.

If you are a consumer who received a data breach notice, or you believe your personal information was lost or exposed, and you want to know what steps you should take to protect yourself, visit IdentityTheft.gov.

For more information, view the Attorney General’s Office 2018 Data Breach Report.
